Sony PSP Specifications   (By Jonathon H)   07/07/2005

The Sony PSP is by far the most powerful handheld console on the market. It comes with many different addons and features which are sure to keep you entertained for hours. The games for the PSP are stored on UMDs (Universal Media Discs), the new format of disks brought out specifically for the console. These are dual layer, single-sided discs which have a storage capacity of 1.8GB each. The gameplay on the PSP is better than the original Playstation, and nearly as good as what you would get on a full-sized PS2. This is due to the system's 333MHz processor. The gaming experience is enhanced even further with the inclusion of 802.11b Wi-Fi built in. There is a power saving switch on the side of the unit so you can turn it off when not in use. The display is a brilliant 16 million coloured widescreen (16:9) LCD TFT (4.3 inches). This enhances the gaming experience and allows the user to play games on the move like never before. The high quality of this display allows for the seamless playback of UMD movies and MPEG files. The PSP has a memory stick duo slot. This is the standard Sony card type, and expensive. However, the PSP does come with a 32MB card in the value pack. This would allow you to save a few music videos or MP3s. UMD movies are basically full movies compressed to the PSP screen size and put onto a UMD disk. The sound comes in the form of rich stereo, to make gaming more realistic. The PSP can take both MP3 and Atrac music. There is also support for album thumbnails, so you can see the album art on your PSP. This could be seen as more than just a console.
